Odisha Sub-Treasury Staffer Held For Demanding Bribe From Pensioner

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Monday apprehended Saroj Kumar Sahoo, a senior assistant at the Sub-Treasury Office in Khandapara in Nayagarh district, while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹3,000 from a pensioner.

According to vigilance sources, Sahoo had demanded the illegal gratification to facilitate the credit pensionary benefits in his favour. He allegedly threatened to block the processing and passing of the bills if the amount was not paid. Distressed by the demand and harassment, the pensioner approached the Vigilance authorities. Following which, a trap was laid and Sahoo was caught red-handed while he was receiving the bribe money. The entire amount of Rs 3,000 was recovered from his possession and seized as evidence.

Simultaneous searches are being conducted at two locations linked to the accused to probe his disproportionate assets.

A case has been registered against Sahoo at Bhubaneswar Vigilance police station under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, and further investigation is underway.
