Cuttack: Under the direct supervision of DIG Central Range, Dr. Satyajit Naik, Odisha Police has finalised a “Zero-Tolerance, Maximum-Safety” grid for the upcoming New Year 2026 celebrations.
Covering the vital districts of Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur and Jajpur, the security framework is designed to facilitate a seamless experience for an expected congregation of lakhs of devotees and tourists.
The Central Range has authorised the deployment of 150 Platoons of the Police Force to manage the massive surge at religious and coastal hubs to maintain law and order.
ODRAF (Emergency Response), STU (Special Tactical Unit), and 179-Life Guards have been deployed for beach and water safety. The DIG has ordered integration of high-definition CCTV networks and drone monitoring in high-footfall zones like Puri Beach and Kantilo Nilamadhab. The DIG has mandated district-specific “Safety Zones” for key attractions.
Intensified marine patrolling is being done at Puri Blue Flag Beach, Paradeep and Siali Sea Beach. Specialised crowd-regulation is made at Shri Jagannath Temple (Puri), Biraja Temple (Jajpur), and Baldevjee Temple (Kendrapara).
Enhanced patrolling is being conducted in Chilika (Khordha) and Bhitarkanika (Kendrapara) to prevent public nuisance and protect wildlife areas. Round-the-clock checkpoints (Nakas) have been set up to intercept drunken driving and overspeeding to prevent New Year tragedies.
Arrangements have been made for Pre-notified one-way routes and dedicated parking clusters to prevent gridlock near picnic spots. Mobile bike and van patrolling is made to ensure the safety of long-distance travellers. A strict “Zero-Tolerance Policy” is in effect for anti-social behaviour.
Plainclothes women police officers are deployed to ensure the safety of women and children. Intensified vigil will be kept on illegal parties, contraband, and the unlawful sale of liquor.
Also, 24/7 Help Desks and Control Rooms are now active for missing person reports and immediate medical assistance. “Our primary objective for the New Year 2026 is to balance the joy of celebration with the sanctity of law. From the riverfronts of Cuttack to the beaches of Puri, our officers are on the ground to ensure that every citizen feels safe. We appeal to the public to be our partners in safety—celebrate responsibly and respect the law.” Dr. Satyajit Naik, DIG Central Range, said.
The Central Range Police encourages everyone to follow all traffic diversions. Avoid deep-water ventures at beaches and riverfronts. Report any suspicious activity or harassment to the nearest 24/7 Police Help Desk.
