Odisha Inaugurates Khelo India Centres In Every District To Foster Sports Culture At Grassroots
Bhubaneswar: Khelo India Centres were formally inaugurated across all 30 districts of Odisha on Sunday to strengthen grassroots sports infrastructure.
“These centres have been set up in schools. An annual grant of Rs 5 lakh each will be provided for the proper management of these centres. The coaches to be recruited will be past champions of the area,” Sports and Youth Services Minister Suryabanshi Suraj told reporters.
He said that the athletes will be provided with appropriate training, and robust infrastructure with all facilities for various sports such as football, volleyball, hockey, athletics, kho-kho, and kabaddi. “These centres will play an important role for those who want to make a career out of sports. It will also help promote sports culture in those districts,” he added.
The primary goal of the initiative is to create a national-level platform for athletes to showcase their talent and to identify them for further grooming and financial support.
