Bhubaneswar: Be it Rs 10,000 or Rs 10 lakh, all depositors who have invested in chit funds will be refunded by the government, said Odisha BJP President Manmohan Samal.
Addressing a press meet on Friday, he said that the process of returning money to depositors is already underway and will be completed within four months. A list of 5 lakh depositors has been prepared, and the State government is committed to refund all investors as per the promises made in the Sankalp Patra, he said.
Manmohan stated that within a year, 1,26,137 depositors have already been refunded their money. The list for this phase is complete. He added that on showing even minimal proof, depositors will receive their refunds. “This is a regular process, and once the list arrives, money will be returned phase-wise,” he said.
Reiterating the government’s commitment, Samal said, “We had announced that we will refund the money of eligible chit fund investors. Those whom we identify on our own, and others who manage to provide any form of evidence, even a small piece of paper, we will ensure their money is refunded.”
He further said, “I would like to thank our Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who managed to refund as many as 1,26,137 eligible investors. He has now announced that, in the next four months, another list of 5 lakh eligible investors will receive their refunds.”
“We gathered information and evidence from various sources and prepared a list of the 5 lakh eligible investors, whatever the amount may be, whether it is Rs 10,000 or Rs 10,00,000, it will be refunded,” he added.
