Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has approved the suspension of two government officials in connection with separate cases.
The suspended officials are Arun Kumar Biswal, Additional Secretary of the Commerce and Transport Department, and Sujit Kumar Roul, Senior Superintendent of Choudwar Circle Jail.
According to government rules, both officials were placed under suspension after being arrested and remaining in judicial custody for more than 48 hours.
Biswal was arrested for allegedly harassing a woman employee. He was under the influence of alcohol when he created a ruckus outside the woman’s house in Bhubaneswar. He then entered the house forcibly and assaulted her.
In the other case, Roul was arrested in connection with the jailbreak incident at Choudwar Circle Jail last year. He has been accused of manipulating the prison’s minute book and other records and forging the signature of former jailor Santoshini Dash.
Dash had lodged a complaint alleging that Roul forged her signature in an attempt to shift responsibility for the jailbreak incident onto her.
Two undertrial prisoners, Raja Sahani and Madhukant Kumar, had escaped from Choudwar Circle Jail in October last year.
