Odisha CM speaks to Durgapur rape survivor, assures full support and swift justice

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday personally spoke to the Odia medical student who was allegedly gang-raped in West Bengal’s Durgapur, assuring her and her family that the State government stands firmly with them and will ensure justice is served without delay.

According to sources, CM Majhi held a detailed phone conversation with the survivor, her mother, and Odisha State Commission for Women Chairperson Shobhana Mohanty, who was present in Durgapur.

During the call, the Chief Minister conveyed his prayers for the student’s recovery and reaffirmed that her education, health, and safety would be fully taken care of by the Odisha government.

He assured the survivor that the State would support her rehabilitation and help her continue her studies. “I have directed my officials to look into the matter and ensure that your studies can continue without any disruption. If necessary, we will enrol you in Bhubaneswar,” the CM said to the survivor.

In a separate conversation with the survivor’s mother, CM Majhi reiterated that the culprits would face the harshest punishment under the law.

He intimated that the Odisha State Women’s Commission is maintaining constant coordination with the West Bengal authorities to ensure the investigation moves swiftly and transparently.

The Chief Minister also stated that every possible forum will be used to create pressure for speedy justice.
