Bhubaneswar: To streamline LPG distribution and prevent diversion of subsidised cylinders, the Odisha government has stressed mandatory electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC) verification for all domestic consumers seeking refills from distributors.
Speaking to the media, Food Supply and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra on Sunday said that the measure will ensure cylinders reach only genuine beneficiaries. “We have issued instructions to LPG distributors to provide cylinders only to consumers who have completed their e-KYC,” Patra said, adding that it will help eliminate fake or duplicate connections and stop misuse of domestic LPG supplies.
Domestic LPG consumers have been advised to complete the e-KYC process at their nearest LPG distributor or through authorised online portals to avoid any disruption in future refills.
The Minister assured that the focus was on protecting genuine users while cracking down on irregularities in the system. He further informed that the government has clamped down on the illegal open-market sale of small 1 kg and 5 kg cooking gas cylinders.
This directive comes amid broader efforts by the state government to check any possible disruption in the LPG supply chain due to the West Asia conflict. Raids are being conducted across districts again hoarding and black marketing of LPG cylinders.
