Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly was adjourned till 4 pm on Friday after Opposition members created a ruckus over the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Act on the fourth day of the Monsoon Session.
The House functioned for merely four minutes after the proceedings began, as BJD and Congress legislators raised slogans and protested over the issue during the Question Hour.
MLAs from both parties walked towards the Speaker’s podium carrying banners and posters opposing the MMDR Amendment Act. As a mark of protest, Congress members wore banners. The Opposition members resorted to sloganeering and demanded withdrawal of the MMDR Amendment Act. With the protests disrupting proceedings, the Deputy Speaker adjourned the House till 4 pm.
The BJD and Congress MLAs have been opposing the MMDR Amendment Act since the beginning of the Monsoon Session.
