Bhubaneswar: A major fire broke out in the Unit-1 vegetable market area of Bhubaneswar on Wednesday afternoon, gutting around 15 to 20 shops. Thick smoke and flames quickly engulfed the market section, causing panic among local vendors and residents.
Upon receiving the alert, as many as 11 fire tenders were rushed to the spot. In a prolonged firefighting operation, the blaze was being brought under control.
Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far. However, the loss of property is expected to be significant. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, and an investigation is currently underway.
Police and fire service officials have initiated an investigation to ascertain the cause of the fire. Preliminary reports suggest that the fire was suspected to have been triggered by an electrical short circuit.
Considered one of Bhubaneswar’s most crowded commercial hubs, the Unit-I market sees thousands of visitors every day.
