Bhubaneswar: The long-standing Mahanadi water dispute between Odisha and Chhattisgarh will be resolved soon, said Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai who is on a two-day visit to Odisha.
Sai said both states have already presented their views before the Central Water Commission (CWC) regarding the dispute. He said both Odisha and Chhattisgarh would accept and respect whatever decision is taken by the CWC.
Sai said the issue is no longer being treated as a dispute, and discussions have already been held in Delhi to find a solution. He added that he would also discuss the matter with Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
According to Sai, the presence of BJP governments in Odisha, Chhattisgarh and at the Centre could help facilitate an early resolution to the issue. He expressed confidence that the matter could be settled at any time.
He also pointed to water disputes in other states, saying that several such issues have been resolved after BJP governments came to power.
