‘Learner Driver’ Crashes Car Into Roadside Tree In Bhubaneswar’s Ghatikia

Bhubaneswar: At least one person was injured after a car crashed into a roadside tree at Ghatikia Square in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday.

According to sources, the accident occurred this morning when a youth allegedly lost control over the car near the busy intersection while learning to drive and slammed into a roadside tree. The impact severely damaged the vehicle’s front end, leaving it mangled. Local residents quickly responded, assisting in rescuing the occupants before police and emergency services arrived.

A team from Khandagiri police station soon reached the site and coordinated the rescue efforts. The critically injured driver was rescued from the wreckage and rushed to a private hospital for treatment.

Traffic was disrupted for about an hour at the busy stretch of Ghatikia Square following the accident, which raised concerns about road safety in the state capital, ironically during observance of National Road Safety Month. Local residents have called for urgent measures, including speed bumps, enhanced infrastructure, more police patrols, and stricter penalties for traffic violations.

Meanwhile, police have seized the vehicle and launched a probe to determine the exact cause of the accident, including reduced visibility from morning fog, slippery roads, mechanical issues, or inexperienced/rash driving.
