Jharsuguda Records Highest-Ever April Temp; Mercury Soars To 40°C & Above At 15 Places In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Jharsuguda in Odisha on Tuesday recorded an all-time high temperature of 46.2°C for April am
id severe heatwave warning.

The highest temperature since 1953 was 46.1°C, recorded on April 19, 2010, according to senior meteorologist Umashankar Das.

The mercury soared to 40°C and above at 15 places in Odisha. Jharsuguda was followed by Hirakud (44.7°C), Sambalpur (44.6°C), Boudh (44.5°C), Titlagarh (44°C), Sundargarh and Sonepur at 43.8°C each, Balangir (43.2°C), Bhawanipatna, Rourkela and Bargarh at 42.8°C each, Angul (42.3°C), Nuapada (42°C), Talcher (40.6°C) and Paralakhemundi (40°C), with hot and dry north-westerly winds blowing inwards.

The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, on the other hand, recorded below normal temperatures of 36.7°C and 36.8°C respectively.

The IMD had issued an orange warning of heatwave for one or two places in Boudh, Balangir, Sundargarh and Sambalpur districts for the day. Yellow warning was also sounded for Nuapada, Bargarh, Kalahandi and Sonepur. Hot and humid conditions was forecast for one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati and warn night at one or two places in Sambalpur, Sundargarh, and Balangir

Severe heatwave warning continues for Jharsuguda till April 24.
