Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Water Resources Department has received the Best Award in the State Category at the 9th India International Water Week (IIWW) 2026, recognising the state’s initiatives in climate-resilient water management.
The five-day event was held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi with the theme “Climate Resilient Water Management.” Odisha participated in the event as the Partner State.
The Odisha Pavilion showcased the state’s integrated approach to water management, focusing on water conservation and distribution, efficient utilisation of water resources, agricultural innovation and community participation.
The pavilion highlighted how irrigation infrastructure, innovative farming practices and community participation can work together to improve the livelihoods of farmers and local communities.
The Odisha Integrated Irrigation Project for Climate Resilient Agriculture (OIIPCRA) was among the key attractions at the pavilion. It showcased the restoration of minor irrigation systems along with climate-resilient agricultural practices, including direct-seeded rice cultivation, green manuring, crop diversification and integrated rice-fish farming.
The project also highlighted farmers’ access to agricultural machinery through Custom Hiring Centres, aimed at improving farm efficiency and supporting climate-resilient agriculture.
A model of the Kanupur Irrigation Project was also displayed, highlighting Odisha’s major irrigation infrastructure and its approach to ensuring water availability based on local requirements.
The pavilion further showcased the Pani Panchayat initiative, highlighting the role of farmers and local institutions in water-use planning and irrigation management.
A Best Practices Corner and interactive activities were also organised to raise awareness about water conservation and community-based approaches to water management.
The Best Award in the State Category recognises Odisha’s efforts to integrate water infrastructure with agricultural requirements and community needs. As the Partner State, Odisha also used the international platform to share its experiences and learn from water-management approaches adopted in other regions to address climate-related challenges.
