Bhubaneswar: Shakuntala Art Gallery and Sanskar Bharati, Utkal East Region, Visual Arts Department, organized a two-day painting exhibition and discussion session at Shakuntala Art Gallery near Uttara Square on the city outskirts.
Twenty senior artists from Odisha, including Janardan Parmaguru, Pradeep Pandey, Rajesh Kumar Nayak, Arun Jena, Dr. Durgamadhaba Kar, Dr. Panchanan Samal, Shivanarayan Mahapatra, Atasi Basu, Priyadarshini Mohanty, Tejaswini Samantsinghar, Nirod Nandini Behera, Namita Sahu, Dr. Sthitadhi Rath, Santosh Maharana, Ashok Behera, and Subash Pujahari, participated in the event, showcasing traditional and mythological themes in Odissi style.
The event featured an interaction session with the artists, with Dr. Durgamadhab Kar, Head of the Department of Art, Odisha College of Art, and Dr. Panchanan Samal, Principal of Dhauli Art College, sharing their insights. Dr. Sthitadhi Rath, Convenor of Visual Arts, Sanskar Bharati, and Sangram Maharana, Art Director of News Seven Channel, also participated in the discussion, highlighting the significance of traditional and mythological art in Odisha.

On the second day, the artists visited the ancient Gangeswari Temple at Gop Bayalisabati near Konark, exploring its architectural beauty. The artists, however, after studying the decay of the stones used in the temple’s construction, unanimously agreed that the temple is more ancient than the Sun Temple of Konark, not contemporary. Although the temple’s ‘shikhara’ is built in Rekha style, its elaborate external decorations suggest it is even older than the Lingaraj Temple. They opined that the temple of Goddess -Gangeswari is likely contemporary to the Chourasi Barahi Temple. Though some people claim it to be a miniature replica of the Konark Sun Temple, but that’s not true, they observed.
The event was coordinated by researcher Sanjay Baral, Dr.Stitadhi Rath both from Sanskar Bharati and Janardan Parmaguru, the Director of Shakuntala Art Gallery.
