First meeting of reconstituted Jagannath temple managing committee on September 3

Bhubaneswar: The first meeting of the reconstituted managing committee of Shree Jagannath Temple in Odisha’s Puri will be held on September 3, Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan informed on Friday.

The newly-nominated members will be formally welcomed during the meeting to be chaired by chairman Gajapati Maharaj Dibyasingha Deb, and a sub-committee will also be constituted. Shifting of the ‘hundi’ inside Natya Mandap for implementing dhadi (queue) darshan system to streamline devotees’ movement on the shrine premises and inventory of Ratna Bhandar, the treasury of Lord Jagannath, are likely to be discussed. The committee is also likely to approve rituals for the upcoming lunar eclipse (Chandra Grahan).

“All infrastructural changes for dhadi darshan have been completed and the system can begin once the donation box is shifted. The inventory of the valuables of the Ratna Bhandar will also begin soon,” the Minister said. A day prior to it, a meeting of Chhatisha Nijog will be held.

On August 22, Harichandan had informed that dhadi (queue) darshan system will be introduced at the 12th century shrine on September 15, ahead of the auspicious Kartik month, which draws lakhs of pilgrims to the pilgrim town. Three days later, the Odisha government reconstituted the managing committee, nominating 10 new members from various fields, including former Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India, Girish Chandra Murmu.
