Bhubaneswar: Deputy Director of the Enforcement Directorate’s Odisha branch, Chintan Raghuvanshi, was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Bhubaneswar in connection with an alleged Rs 50 lakh bribery deal.
As per preliminary information, a team of CBI sleuths apprehended Raghuvanshi while allegedly accepting Rs 20 lakh as first instalment in a Rs 50 lakh bribery deal. As per sources, Raghuvanshi had been demanding a huge amount of bribe from a Bhubaneswar-based mines operator to dismiss an ED case against him. Finally, he fixed the bribe deal for Rs 50 lakh.
However, complainant informed the CBI officials regarding his demand, following which a trap was laid and Raghuvanshi was caught red-handed from his office while accepting Rs 20 lakh bribe from the complainant in a hotel.
During the special operation, CBI officials caught the ED Deputy Director and seized the color-coded cash from him as evidence. Raghuvanshi has been taken into custody and further details are awaited.
A 2013-batch officer of the Indian Revenue Service (IRS), Raghuvanshi happens to be the Deputy Director the Bhubaneswar Zonal Office of the ED.
