Bhubaneswar: Odisha government has set the deadline to conclude the electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC) process of ration card for January 15, 2025, Food Supplies Minister Krushna Chandra Patra informed on Wednesday.
New ration cards will be issued thereafter to all eligible Public Distribution System (PDS) beneficiaries, who have either applied beforehand or who will apply in future. Government officials have been instructed to assist with e-KYC procedures both within the State and for Odia residents presently living elsewhere in the country. Recently, a team travelled to Goa to facilitate this process and there are plans to extend similar efforts to other states, the Food Supplies Minister expressed.
Minister Patra highlighted that around 85 per cent of residents in Odisha have already completed their e-KYC verification requirements. However, there are still more than 50 lakh individuals who need to fulfill their e-KYC registrations.
The urgency comes as the Government aims to ensure that inhabitants of Odisha can claim state-provided benefits seamlessly, even if they are residing outside the State.
“Some labourers from Goa informed the Department over the phone and we immediately sent a team of officials to the State to help register the applicants,” the Minister said.
“In case some individuals are left out in any other State, they can inform us over phone; so that, we will send our officials to assist them in hassle-free e-KYC registration,” the Minister added.
Worth mentioning, there are over 40 lakh ghost ration card holders in Odisha, Food Supplies Minister previously stated.
Earlier in November last year, Minister Patra had informed that out of a total 3,36,35,918 PDS beneficiaries, the e-KYC verification was completed for around 2,69,23,830 beneficiaries while as many as 1,77,068 ghost ration card holders were deleted from the list.
