Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police will impose traffic restrictions in Bhubaneswar from 2 pm today in view of the immersion procession of Goddess Durga idols. The restrictions will affect several major roads as processions from four major Bhasani committees move through the city.
The four committees are Bhubaneswar Bhasani Festival Samiti in Saheed Nagar, Rajdhani Mandir Suraka Bhasani Samiti in Nayapalli, Uttar Bhubaneswar Bhasani Samiti in Chandrasekharpur and Old Town Bhasani Samiti.
The restrictions have been imposed to ensure the smooth movement of vehicles and the safety and convenience of the public and pedestrians.
Idols under the Saheed Nagar Bhasani Samiti will assemble at Saheed Nagar before proceeding through Rajmahal Chowk, Ram Mandir Chowk and Master Canteen Chowk.
Vehicles will not be allowed on Janpath Road during the immersion procession. Commuters can use Sachivalaya Marg and adjoining roads as alternative routes.
The Nayapalli Bhasani Samiti procession will assemble at Nayapalli and proceed through Soor Company Chowk, Nayapalli Underpass, CRP Chowk and DAV Chowk before taking a right turn towards Gopabandhu Chowk and Siripur Chowk.
Vehicles travelling from CRP Chowk towards Cuttack will be diverted towards Jayadev Vihar through Ekamra Park Road.
During the procession, vehicles using Stewarts School Road, Unit-8 Road and the O.U.A.T. Chowk-New Airport Road stretch can continue through adjoining roads.
The Chandrasekharpur Bhasani Samiti procession will assemble at Damana Chowk and proceed through Nalco Chowk.
Vehicles approaching Jaydev Square from Nandankanan Square can use the connecting roads at KIIT Square or Kalarahanga Square.
Heavy vehicles and buses coming towards Bhubaneswar from the Khordha side will not be allowed to use the service road. They must use the flyover instead.
The police have also noted that separate immersion processions organised by other Puja committees will take place on various roads across the city.
