Dhenkanal: In a horrifying incident that has left locals in shock, a seven-month-old baby girl was allegedly killed by her intoxicated father during a domestic altercation on Sunday evening in Kantapal village under Kankadahad police limits of Dhenkanal district. In a dramatic turn of events, the mother later attacked her husband with a glass bottle in retaliation.
According to sources, Sanjay Chhatar, a daily wage labourer originally from Raruasahi village in Mayurbhanj, had been living at his in-laws’ house in Kantapal with his wife and infant daughter.
While he had been working previously, Sanjay had been unemployed for several months, reportedly causing friction in the household. On Sunday evening, Sanjay and his wife, Janani Munda, were returning home after buying rice from a local dealer when an argument broke out between them.
Enraged and in an inebriated state, Sanjay allegedly slammed their seven-month-old daughter against the ground in the village street. The baby girl died on the spot.
Eyewitnesses and police reports suggest that, upon witnessing the horrific act, Janani attempted to defend her child. In a fit of rage and desperation, she reportedly attacked Sanjay with a glass bottle, piercing his abdomen.
He reportedly sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Kamakshyanagar Medical Centre, and was later referred to Dhenkanal District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.
Kankadahad Police, led by IIC Kalpana Behera, reached the spot and launched an investigation.
