Digitise heritage activities for global outreach, demand experts

Puri: The first annual day celebration of Puri Heritage Walks was held at Sanskruti Bhavan, Puri on Sunday marking a glorious year of celebrating heritage and its footprints over the Sankha Kshetra, one of the four “dhamas” of the Hindu pantheon and also the abode of the Trinity.

Renowned sculptor and Padma Vibhushan awardee Sudarshan Sahoo attended as the chief guest and spoke about the importance of creating awareness on heritage for future generations. Historian Anil Dhir, as the keynote speaker, discussed heritage monuments facing destruction over time and the necessary measures to be taken for their preservation.

INTACH State convener Biswajit Mohanty shared his views on the objectives of the heritage walk. President of Udaygiri Foundation, JP Jagdev, spoke about digitising various heritage preservation activities and taking them to the global stage. Mathadhish Swami Subhananda Ji Maharaj of Mahiprakash Math emphasised the need to preserve historical facts for future generations.

The Hindi edition of the book ‘Heritage of Nabakalebara’ by heritage researcher Surendra Kumar Mishra was released, and he also spoke on heritage research.

On this occasion, the chief Vishwakarma Sevak of the Nandighosha Ratha, Bijaya Kumar Mohapatra, heritage researcher and writer Krushna Chandra Mishra, and Sarangadhar Raiguru were honoured with the ‘Aitihya Ratna’ award. Distinguished heritage workers from the state and Puri were felicitated with ‘Aitihya Shri’ and ‘Aitihya Bandhu’ awards. Heritage activists from Cuttack Heritage Walk, Jagatsinghpur Heritage Walk, Dhenkanal Heritage Walk, Mayurbhanj Heritage Walk, and Balasore Darshan were also presented with the ‘Aitihya Bandhu’ award.

At this event, meritorious students from the earlier school-level Heritage quiz and painting competitions were presented with certificates, awards and prizes. The programme was conducted by heritage researcher Pandit Sidharth Acharya and journalist Rajashree Sahoo. On this occasion, the souvenir of Puri Heritage Walks’ annual day celebration, ‘Aitihya Gabakshya’, was also released.

Under the guidance of Puri Heritage Walks advisor Debi Prasanna Nanda, conveners Biswaranjan Dehury, Sanjay Kumar Baral, and Dr Kumar Aurojyoti, and with the support of Ashoka Manjari Nayak, Priyankar Maharana, Jyotsna Mohapatra, Satyaprakash Nayak, Abhipsa Nayak, Durgamadhab Mohanty, Tanmaya Chatterjee, Suprava Sahoo, Biswamohan Sahoo, Biswa Shanti Tripathy, Yajna Prasad Nanda, and others, the programme was successfully organised.
