Diarrhoea situation under control in Odisha, says Health Minister

Bhubaneswar: The state Health Minister, Mukesh Mahaling, on Friday informed that the overall diarrhoea situation in Odisha is under control. Speaking after a review meeting via video conference with the Collectors of Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Kendrapara and Bhadrak, the Minister informed that both the central team and state government officials have confirmed that the disease is spreading through contaminated water.

The Health Minister further said that water samples are being tested in affected areas, and wherever poor water quality is detected, those sources and areas are being sealed. He added that the number of diarrhoea patients is gradually decreasing and the Odisha government is actively working to manage the situation while also raising awareness among the public.

Actions are being taken against the sale of stale food, with raids being conducted as well as fines being imposed and collected, the Health Minister stated.

In a related development, Odisha Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj visited the Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital, DHH, on Thursday to meet patients undergoing treatment. He also held a review meeting with the Collector, Chief District Medical Officer, and other key health officials in the CDMO’s conference hall. Currently, 158 individuals are receiving medical treatment in Jajpur district.

Amid these developments, the Orissa High Court has expressed concern over the diarrhoea outbreak in Cuttack.

The Odisha government continues to monitor the situation across affected districts, aiming to contain the disease and ensure the health and safety of residents through coordinated measures.
