Deogarh: Tension gripped Dudhianali village under Tileibani block in Deogarh district on Thursday after angry residents tied three workers of electricity department to a pole, demanding swift restoration of power supply disrupted for four days following a severe Nor’wester.
The power outage, triggered by damage from the recent storm, left the village without electricity amid intense summer heat. When a repair team arrived on Thursday, agitated villagers allegedly restrained the workers and tied them to an electricity pole. They insisted that senior officials from the department visit the spot to address their long-pending grievances.
Residents further claimed the prolonged blackout severely damaged their crops and vegetable fields. Despite repeated complaints to authorities, no timely action was taken, compelling them to resort to this extreme step in desperation.
Police personnel from Kansar outpost, along with electricity department officials, rushed to the village upon receiving reports of the incident. Through persuasion and assurances of immediate restoration efforts, the villagers eventually released the detained employees. No police complaint has been filed so far in connection with the incident, the sources added.
