CM Majhi launches projects worth Rs 580 crore in Balangir

Balangir: In a significant push towards industrial growth and rural development, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday launched and laid the foundation stones for 304 projects worth Rs 580 crore in the district.

The announcement was made during a State-level celebration of National Panchayati Raj Day, where the Chief Minister emphasized the transformative potential of these initiatives for Western Odisha’s economy.

Highlighting key industrial developments, the Chief Minister announced the establishment of a new sugar mill and a textile park in Balangir. These projects are expected to generate employment opportunities, strengthen local industries, and enhance the region’s economic landscape. Among the major initiatives, a new Nursing College at the Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital will be developed to improve healthcare education and services in the district.

The large-scale project rollout reflects the state government’s focus on strengthening infrastructure across rural and semi-urban areas. Recalling his experience as a former Sarpanch, Majhi described Panchayats as the backbone of democracy and reiterated his commitment to inclusive growth.

He also launched the Panchayati Raj Samikshya Portal, aimed at enhancing transparency, accountability, and efficiency in rural governance. He distributed work orders to over 50,000 beneficiaries under the Antyodaya Gruha Yojana and announced that Odisha will receive 10 lakh additional houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).

The event was attended by Deputy CM Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Panchayati Raj Minister Rabi Narayan Nayak, who highlighted the state’s commitment to rural development with a record budget allocation of Rs 44,309 crore for the current financial year.
