CHW holds 79th heritage trail with visit to historic Bodhi tree

Cuttack: During the 79th heritage trail under the Cuttack Heritage Walks (CHW), participants visited the Satyabrata Stadium premises to explore a Bodhi tree of historical importance.

The tree was planted in 1978 by Fuji Maharaj of Japan, symbolising peace, cultural exchange, and Indo-Japanese friendship. This visit added a reflective dimension to the CHW’s heritage encounters, highlighting Cuttack’s lesser-known yet meaningful historical associations.

Today’s CHW event took participants through some of the most historically significant landmarks in and around the iconic Barabati Fort premises covering key heritage sites including the remains of the Barabati Fort, the historic Shahid Qila Masjid, the colonial-era Cuttack Club, and the revered Gadchandi Temple.

Members were briefed on the architectural, cultural, and socio-political significance of each location, offering participants a deeper understanding of Cuttack’s layered past.

A special highlight of the event was the release of the book “Chappan Bhog”, a compilation of essays authored by Sri Sreekant Chatterjee, Retired Principal Commissioner, Income Tax Department, Mumbai.

Releasing the book, Rajendra Kumar Jena, Printer and Publisher of the daily the Samaja lauded the efforts of the senior writer. The book has been published by Grantha Mandira, Cuttack, and reflects a wide range of socio-cultural and intellectual themes drawn from the author’s long public and professional engagements.

The walk witnessed the enthusiastic participation of around 30 members, comprising retired professionals, working individuals, and students, reflecting a growing intergenerational interest in heritage conservation and heritage.The programme concluded with informal discussions among participants, bringing the enriching morning to a warm and convivial close.
