Bharat Vikash Parishad celebrates Vijay Diwas in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Bharat Vikash Parishad, Bhubaneswar Central Branch, on Tuesday celebrated ‘Vijay Diwas’ by recollecting the valour and sacrifices of brave soldiers and by felicitating few serving and retired defence personnel at a special function here.

This year, two veer narees Mrs. Aseema Panda, wife of Late Colonel C R Panda, Vishista Sewa Medal and Nibedita Mallick, wife of Late Naik Sachidananda Mallick, who had died in different War-time Operations were felicitated. Similarly, Brigadier (Dr) SK Rath (Retired) and Er Banbir Das (Retired) were also felicitated by the Bharat Vikash Parishad for their exemplary services to the Armed Forces as well as for the Nation.

India had gained a glorious victory in 1971 during India-Pakistan war which is also called as the ‘Bangladesh Liberation War’ on December 16, 1971. India had declared victory over Pakistan in its 14-day War and had helped in the creation of Bangladesh as an Independent Country.

December 16 is observed and celebrated as ‘Vijay Diwas’ every year throughout the country to commemorate this victory of the defence forces over Pakistan and to pay homage to valiant soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the Country and became martyrs of their motherland.

The programme was presided over by Dr. M P Rout as the President of Bharat Vikash Parishad. Lieutenant General Narayan Mohanty, PVSM, AVSM, VSM was the Chairman of the Celebration Committee, Air Marshal D K Patnaik, AVSM, VM (Retired), the former Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Air Command, Colonel S K Dash (Retired), Geeta Pattnaik and Chandana Tripathy were present.

The Programme was concluded with an Audio- Visual Show presented by Colonel P K Das (Retired) on ‘Operation Sindoor’. The Programme was attended by a large number of defence personnel and civilians of the city.
