Nabarangpur: A group of robbers allegedly broke into a house in Umerkote area of Odisha’s Nabarangpur district and decamped with gold ornaments and over Rs 70 lakh in cash.
As per information, the incident took place at the house of Amulya Jena at Kochaniamba in Umerkote late on Sunday night. The gang of around six robbers reportedly forced entry by breaking open the door, threatened the family with sharp weapons and looted Rs 70 lakh in cash and gold ornaments worth around Rs 10 lakh.
Sources said the victim had kept the large sum of money at home after selling land nearly 3 months ago. The robbers, armed with knives and other sharp weapons, entered the house forcefully while Amulya was sleeping alone in the house. The robbers brandished weapons, and tied him up with ropes before escaping with the valuables.
Following the incident, Amulya lodged a complaint at the Umerkote local police station and an investigation is currently underway. Police teams are probing possible leads and suspect that the gang may have had prior knowledge of the cash being stored at the residence. Police sources say someone from Amulya’s circle who knew about him receiving Rs 70 lakh from a land deal must have colluded with the gang to carry out this theft, they said.
