Cyclone ‘Murasu’: Odisha keeps close watch on 7 southern districts

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government is keeping a close watch on seven districts in southern Odisha in view of the approaching Cyclone ‘Murasu’, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari said on Monday.

Speaking to reporters after reviewing the cyclone preparedness with the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), the Minister said seven districts are likely to be affected by the weather system.

The districts under watch are Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Kalahandi and Kandhamal. Rainfall alerts have been issued for these districts by the IMD.

The Minister said people who had earlier been shifted to cyclone shelters during Cyclone ‘Arnab’ have returned to their homes. However, they will be moved back to the shelters if the situation demands it.

Pujari said 1,80,920 people had taken shelter in cyclone centres during Cyclone ‘Arnab’. He said the administration was closely monitoring the situation and taking necessary preparedness measures to deal with the possible impact of Cyclone ‘Murasu’ in Odisha.
