Baleshwar: Two elderly women, sisters-in-law in relation, were killed after being hit by a train near Basta railway station in Odisha’s Baleshwar district on Monday morning.
The deceased have been identified as Rukchand Marandi of Baunsatopha village and her sister-in-law from Parulia village.
According to reports, the two women had gone to Basta market in the morning. While returning, they were crossing the railway tracks near Basta railway station when they were struck by the Shalimar Express, which was heading towards Howrah.
Both women died on the spot due to the impact of the collision.
On being informed, police reached the spot and recovered the bodies. An investigation has been launched to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident.
