Bhubaneswar: A low pressure area is very likely to form over the Bay of Bengal (BoB) on Saturday (September 19) evening and intensify into a depression on September 21, said the IMD.
As per the IMD prediction, the system is very likely to further intensify into a deep depression on September 22.
“An upper-air cyclonic circulation lies over north Andaman Sea and neighbourhood and extended upto 7.6 km above mean sea level Saturday morning. Under its influence, a low pressure area is very likely to form over the same region around the evening. It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify gradually into a depression over east-central Bay of Bengal on September 21 and into a deep depression over west-central Bay of Bengal on September 22,” said the IMD regional centre here today.
The system is very likely to reach west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal near south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts around the morning of September 23, it added. The deep depression over the BoB may trigger heavy rainfall in several districts of Odisha till September 26.
As per the IMD prediction, heavy to very heavy rainfall may lash Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada districts on September 22. Besides, several places across the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Kandhamala, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri may witness heavy rainfall on the day.
The IMD has predicted extremely heavy rainfall for Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam and Puri districts on September 23. Similarly, districts like Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Boudh, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Khordha and Nayagada may witness heavy to very heavy rainfall on the day.
This apart, heavy rainfall may lash some places across the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada and Balangir on September 23.
According to the IMD regional centre, some places across the districts of Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Rayagada, Balangir, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam and Puri are likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall on September 24.
Moreover, heavy rainfall is likely to lash one or two places across the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Baragada, Sambalpur, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Khordha and Nayagada on the day.
The MeT Department has predicted that heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Baragada, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi and Nabarangpur on September 25.
Besides, a few places across the districts of Baleshwar, Sambalpur, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Kandhamala, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri may witness heavy rainfall on the day.
