Bhubaneswar: As part of the inter-state media exposure tour to Chhattisgarh organised by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Bhubaneswar, a media delegation from Odisha visited NTPC Korba to gain first-hand insight into power generation, operational efficiency and sustainability initiatives on Wednesday.
The delegation participated in an interaction with NTPC Korba, where Kishore Chandra Patra, Executive Director, NTPC Korba, along with senior officials, briefed the visiting journalists on the station’s performance, operations and key initiatives. The interaction enabled the journalists to gain a ground-level understanding of the station’s contribution to power generation and the energy sector.
With an installed capacity of 2,600 MW, NTPC Korba recorded a Plant Load Factor (PLF) of 87.71 per cent during FY 2025-26, the highest among NTPC stations during the financial year. The station has recorded the highest PLF among NTPC stations for six consecutive years. It also achieved 94.85 per cent Declared Capacity and 95.33 per cent on-bar availability during the year.
During the interaction, the delegation was informed that NTPC Korba supplies electricity to Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Goa. The station also recorded the highest operating earnings among NTPC’s coal-based stations during FY 2025-26, with specific oil consumption of 0.178 ml/kWh.
The journalists were also apprised of the station’s operational performance. Unit #7 recorded 455 days of continuous operation, while Unit-1 recorded 495 days, with all three Stage-I units featuring among NTPC’s top five longest-running units.
A major focus of the interaction was environmental sustainability. NTPC Korba has developed green cover over more than 33 per cent of its total area, with over 30 lakh trees planted and a reported survival rate exceeding 95 per cent. More than 4.5 lakh trees have also been planted at the reclaimed Charpara Ash Dyke.
The delegation was further briefed on fly ash utilisation. During FY 2025-26, the station recorded 60.71 lakh metric tonnes of cumulative ash utilisation, achieving 108.48 per cent of its annual target.
The journalists also learnt about NTPC Korba’s CSR initiatives in healthcare, education, skill development, livelihood generation, sports and community infrastructure. Mobile Health Units have provided healthcare services to more than 25,000 beneficiaries in surrounding villages, while the Girl Empowerment Mission recently covered 660 students from 41 schools across 36 villages.
The delegation was also briefed about NTPC Korba’s contribution to PM-SETU (Pradhan Mantri Skilling and Employability through Upgraded ITIs). Under the initiative, NTPC Korba is supporting the strengthening of five ITIs in the Korba region through modernisation of training infrastructure, equipment upgrades, industry-relevant trades and practical training. NTPC Korba has pledged Rs 42 crore over five years for implementation of PM-SETU in the Korba Cluster.
The visit enabled the Odisha media delegation to gain first-hand insights into power generation, operational efficiency, environmental management, skill development and community initiatives, providing a broader perspective on NTPC Korba’s role in the development of the region and the energy sector.
The visit was coordinated by Manamohan Padhy, Assistant Director, Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Sambalpur, and Bikash Ranjan Dalai, Information Assistant, Press Information Bureau (PIB), Bhubaneswar, who accompanied and facilitated the media delegation throughout the visit.
