Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi returned to the State on Sunday after concluding his five-day visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). During the investor outreach in the UAE, the state received investment proposals worth Rs 2.43 lakh crore, with the potential to generate around nine lakh employment opportunities.
Addressing the media at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) here, Majhi said the State government is making every possible effort to secure a bright future for Odisha’s youth by accelerating industrialisation and creating employment opportunities within the state.
“Our government is utilising its maximum potential for the golden future of our youth,” the Chief Minister said, adding that the government’s primary objective was to ensure that young people could find respectable employment in their home state after completing their education.
Majhi said the UAE visit marked another significant chapter in the state government’s industrialisation drive over the past two years. Following the Utkarsh Odisha – Make in Odisha Conclave held in Bhubaneswar in January 2025, a dedicated team of the Odisha government has continued its investment outreach across major Indian cities and international destinations, including Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Gujarat and Singapore.
During the UAE visit from September 8 to 12, the Chief Minister, Industries Minister and senior government officials held extensive discussions with investors and business leaders in Abu Dhabi and Dubai from September 9 to 11.
The delegation participated in 52 business meetings, including six roundtable meetings and 46 one-on-one meetings, and interacted with nearly 400 industry leaders and representatives.
The visit resulted in the signing of eight Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and the generation of 16 investment intents, together representing proposed investments of Rs 2,43,162 crore in Odisha.
These investments are expected to create 6,18,725 direct employment opportunities. Including indirect employment, the total number of jobs generated could reach around 9 lakh, said the Chief Minister.
With the fresh investment proposals, Odisha has secured investment intents worth Rs 22.5 lakh crore in two years, he added.
During the visit, the Chief Minister also held important discussions with UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism and Chairman of the International Investors Council, Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, and IHC Managing Director Syed Basar Shueib.
As a follow-up to the partnership between IHC and the Adani Group signed on July 2, 2026, MoUs have been signed for 14 new projects in Odisha. Efforts are also underway to establish industries in Rayagada and Sundargarh districts as part of an integrated aluminium project involving the two companies.
The Chief Minister also interacted with successful Odia entrepreneurs and members of the Odia diaspora in the UAE, saying such engagements would further strengthen business and cultural ties between Odisha and the UAE.
Majhi reiterated the government’s vision of building a prosperous Odisha by 2036 and transforming the state into a $500-billion economy within the next decade. He said the government was simultaneously focusing on creating employment opportunities for educated youth and providing skill training to make them employment-ready for upcoming factories, offices and other industrial establishments.
He said the government’s immediate priority would be to translate the investment proposals and MoUs into ground-level projects at the earliest and commence production. This, he added, would create large-scale employment opportunities in the state in the coming years.
