Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area has formed over southwest West Bengal and adjoining north Odisha under the influence of an upper-air cyclonic circulation, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its latest bulletin.
The weather system was formed at 8.30 am on Saturday. The system is likely to bring heavy rainfall to several parts of Odisha, with the IMD issuing an orange warning for four districts and a yellow warning for the rest of the districts.
Under the orange warning, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in Sundargada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, and Sambalpur.
A yellow warning has been issued for Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Subarnapur, Boudh, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagada, Nuapada and Balangir, where heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places.
The IMD has also predicted thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface winds of up to 30-40 kmph at one or two places in a large number of districts.
