Kendujhar: The body of a driver, who went missing after his car was swept away by strong floodwaters through a major breach on Anandapur Ring Road in Kendujhar district, was recovered on Thursday after an intensive 30-hour search operation.
The body was traced in the floodwaters following a prolonged rescue and search operation carried out by the Fire Services personnel with the assistance of the district administration and local residents.
According to officials, continuous heavy rainfall had created a 30-foot-wide breach on the Anandapur Ring Road. During the incident, the Ertiga car was caught in the strong current and washed away, leaving driver Sadashiv Mohanty missing.
Soon after the incident, rescue teams launched an extensive search operation. Fire Services personnel, local authorities and volunteers continued the search despite challenging conditions caused by the fast-flowing floodwaters. After nearly 30 hours of continuous efforts, rescuers recovered Mohanty’s body from the floodwaters, bringing the search operation to an end.
The incident highlights the dangers posed by the ongoing flood situation in several parts of Odisha following days of incessant rainfall, which has caused breaches in roads, rising river levels and widespread inundation across multiple districts.
Authorities have urged people to avoid travelling through waterlogged and flood-affected roads and to follow official advisories until the situation improves.
