Bhubaneswar: In a tragic road accident, a man and his daughter were killed after a speeding truck dashed against their scooter on near Gangapada Square in Khordha district on Saturday.
The incident, which occurred on National Highway-16, triggered tension in the area as locals blocked the highway by placing the bodies on the road in protest.
Sources said the two were travelling on the two-wheeler when the heavy vehicle rammed into their vehicle, killing both on the spot. Following the accident and protest by locals, a large number of vehicles were stranded on the highway as traffic came to a standstill.
Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jagmohan Meena visited the site and took stock of the situation. Necessary steps were taken to restore normal traffic movement and pacify the agitated locals. Further investigation into the accident is currently underway.
Following the mishap, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi expressed deep grief over the tragic deaths. He also announced financial assistance ex-gratia assistance of Rs 4 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) the family of the victims.
