Puri: In order to ensure a smooth and comfortable pilgrimage experience during Rath Yatra, the Odisha Government has decided to provide food to people at Malatipatapur. This was informed by Transport Minister Bibhuti Jena on Tuesday.
This year, the Odisha Housing and Urban Development department has prohibited the distribution of cooked food along the Bada Danda (Grand Road). The voluntary organisations and donors will be permitted to distribute only dry food items to the millions of devotees expected to gather during the festival. This move is aimed at maintaining strict sanitation and public health standards.
In addition, free e-rickshaw services have been arranged for devotees from Talabania, Sterling Chhak, and Malatipatapur. These services aim to ease movement and reduce congestion during the rush period.
To ensure proper transport management, Regional Transport Officers (RTOs) have been deployed at key locations. They will monitor operations and ensure no buses charge fares exceeding the prescribed rates.
The minister also informed that adequate backup measures have been put in place, including breakdown services and cranes, along with the deployment of additional buses to handle the increased demand. Further, basic medical support will be available at bus stands, with medical kits and Oral Rehydration Solution being stocked for emergency use.
These arrangements are part of the state government’s efforts to ensure safety, convenience, and welfare of devotees visiting Puri.
