Phulbani: Security forces uncovered a Maoist arms dump in Kandhamal district, seizing a large cache of weapons and explosives during a search operation in Kotagarh police limits. Acting on intelligence inputs, police teams combed a forested area and discovered the hidden stockpile.
Officials confirmed the recovery of six firearms, several rounds of live ammunition, and a significant quantity of explosives. The seizure marked a major success in ongoing anti-Maoist operations in the region. Police teams secured the area and collected evidence before transporting the seized materials to the station for further examination.
Senior officers stated that the Maoists had stored the weapons to carry out attacks in Kandhamal and adjoining districts. The recovery disrupted their plans and weakened their operational capacity. Security forces intensified patrolling in vulnerable areas to prevent regrouping.
Though the recovery created tension among locals, police assured that strict measures are in place to maintain safety. Authorities emphasised that the operation demonstrated the effectiveness of coordinated intelligence and field action against Maoist activities.
Investigators are now tracing the supply chain of the seized arms and explosives to identify the Maoist units involved.
