Rourkela: Two people died and more than 30 others fell ill after a diarrhoea outbreak in Nuadihi village under Hemgir block of Sundargarh district. The sudden illness spread rapidly, prompting immediate medical intervention.
Thirteen patients are receiving treatment at Hemgir Hospital, while four critically ill individuals were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital. Public Health Officer Dr Suresh Chandra Mohanty confirmed that a medical team from Hemgir Hospital is stationed in the village to monitor the situation and treat affected residents.
Another team from the district health department will visit Nuadihi for a detailed assessment and preventive measures. Preliminary findings indicate that villagers consumed contaminated food during a feast, triggering diarrhoea and vomiting among attendees.
Health officials disinfected all water sources in the village and imposed restrictions on movement to prevent further spread. Villagers have been urged to remain cautious and follow hygiene guidelines issued by the administration.
