Ratna Bhandar inventory suspended, to resume in June

Bhubaneswar: The inventory (counting work) of the Ratna Bhandar of Puri Jagannath temple will remain suspended from Sunday.

Announcing this on Friday, the temple administration said the counting and documentation process will resume in June after reviewing the prevailing weather conditions and crowd management requirements.

According to the administration, the decision was taken in view of the severe heatwave conditions and the massive influx of devotees visiting the temple. Authorities felt that continuing the process under the present circumstances could create operational difficulties and affect the smooth management of temple activities.

The administration said special attention is now being given to the upcoming major festivals of Lord Jagannath, particularly Snana Purnima and the world-famous Rath Yatra. With lakhs of devotees expected to gather in Puri during the festive period, priority will be given to crowd management, security arrangements, and smooth conduct of rituals.

Officials added that detailed planning for the next phase of the Ratna Bhandar inventory process will be prepared after assessing the festival schedule and logistical requirements.

Meanwhile, the temple administration informed that a series of meetings involving the Chhattisha Nijog and the temple management committee will commence from next week. The meetings are expected to discuss preparations for the upcoming festivals as well as the future course of the Ratna Bhandar inventory work.
