Balangir: A tragic road accident in Balangir district claimed the lives of three children and left three others injured when a pickup van overturned near Marlad Square in Titlagarh on Tuesday. The driver also sustained injuries.
Reports said the pickup, carrying a family returning from a feast in Lesun Bahali, collided head-on with a bike near Marlad. The impact caused the vehicle to lose balance and overturn. Three children died on the spot, while others were rushed to Titilagarh hospital. Doctors declared the deceased upon arrival.
Local residents quickly rescued the injured and shifted them to the hospital. Three children and the driver remain in critical condition. Authorities later transferred the severely injured to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in Balangir for advanced treatment.
Police reached the accident site, seized the vehicle, and launched an investigation. Officials are examining how the collision occurred and whether negligence contributed to the tragedy.
In another accident, more than 30 passengers sustained injuries after a private bus overturned on the Nayagarh-Khandapada Road on Tuesday. The bus was carrying over 50 passengers from Rakma to Nayagarh when it lost balance and veered off the road near Khandapada. Locals and police rushed to the accident spot and rescued the injured. The victims were taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment. Passengers with minor injuries received first aid and were discharged, while others remain under medical care.
