Keonjhar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday announced a Rs 20 crore development package for Jhumpura High School in the district during its diamond jubilee celebrations on Tuesday.
The proposed upgrade includes construction of a 500-seater auditorium, a multi-storey academic building, indoor sports facilities, a boundary wall, and a dedicated bicycle stand, among other essential amenities. The Chief Minister said the initiative aims to transform the institution into one of the premier schools in Odisha.
Attending the ceremony as the chief guest, Majhi also announced that irrigation facilities for the Jhumpura region will soon be strengthened through the Kanupur Dam project, further benefiting the local community.
The visit was marked by an emotional note as the Chief Minister, an alumnus of the school, reminisced about his student days and appeared visibly moved. Addressing the gathering, he said, “Not just as a former student, but as the Chief Minister of the state, I feel proud of my school today.”
“In 1986, I cleared my BSc and he (CM) was in Class-X here. I was his teacher then. He loves teachers as he was a teacher earlier,” said Gopalkrushna Barik, a teacher.
During the event, he also felicitated teachers and paid homage to his mentors by touching their feet, drawing appreciation from the audience. The Diamond Jubilee celebration witnessed participation from students, alumni, and local residents, turning the occasion into a moment of pride for the region.
