Odisha delists 10 private hospitals under Ayushman Bharat

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has removed 10 private hospitals from the empanelled list of the Ayushman Bharat–Gopabandhu Jana Arogya Yojana (AB-GJAY) following allegations of violations and irregular practices.

In addition, a hospital in Ganjam district has been penalised for filing duplicate claims under the scheme. Informing this in the State Assembly on Monday, Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling said the action was taken after examining 56 complaints lodged against various healthcare facilities. Show-cause notices were issued to the concerned hospitals, and subsequent scrutiny led to the suspension of 10 facilities and a financial penalty against one.

According to the minister, the de-rostered hospitals are spread across multiple districts, including three in Cuttack, two each in Ganjam and Khordha, and one each in Kendrapada, Bhadrak, and Balangir. The violations cited include non-compliance with scheme guidelines, lack of proper clinical registration, treatment-related negligence, and other irregularities. One of the cases reportedly involved the death of a patient.

In a separate instance, a hospital in Ganjam was found to have submitted duplicate claims under the scheme. Authorities imposed a penalty of Rs 58,500 which has since been recovered.

Mahaling said the government is maintaining strict oversight of hospitals empanelled under the scheme to ensure beneficiaries receive quality, cashless treatment as promised. He added that complaints against healthcare providers are being actively reviewed, and strict action, including suspension, will be taken against any institution found violating norms.

The scheme is designed to provide free healthcare services to eligible beneficiaries across the state, and officials emphasised that ensuring transparency and accountability remain a priority.
