RD University holds two-day Media Fest

Bhubaneswar: MediAntar 2026, the annual media fest organized by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (JMC), Rama Devi Women’s University (RDWU), began with the lighting of the lamp, university anthem, and presentation of saplings.

Dr. Ambika Sankar Mishra, Convenor and the head of the department welcomed dignitaries and highlighted the fest’s focus on media literacy, professional skills, and emerging opportunities in the sector. He also thanked the education minister Mr. Suraj Suryavanshi for supporting us in organizing this event.”

Smt. Manaswini Sahu, Registrar, and Prof. Chandi Charan Rath, Vice Chancellor (I/C), also addressed the gathering. Vice-Chancellor Chandi Charan Rath highlighted that the Media Fest promotes ethical journalism, media literacy, and creative communication, giving students practical exposure and raising awareness about responsible media use in today’s age of misinformation.

Shri Suryavanshi Suraj, Hon’ble Minister for Higher Education, Sports & Youth Services, Odia Language & Culture, Govt. of Odisha, inspired students, particularly girls emphasizing women’s empowerment in journalism and technology and the significance of ethical media. The inaugural session included the screening of Maa Rama Devi by Dasmati Chattar, Momentous Production.

Organizing Secretary Mr. Narsingh Majhi emphasized student leadership, practical learning, and combating misinformation. MediAntar 2026 successfully blended creativity, ethics, and technology, leaving a lasting impression on all participants.

A panel discussion on “Media, Ethics & Women Leadership” featured Ms. Sarada Lahangir, Ms. Abha Mishra, Mr. Dilip Bisoi, and Prof. Archana Nayak, moderated by Dr. Smiti Padhi, providing insights into ethical journalism, media transparency, and societal impact.

The fest featured eleven creative media competitions such as Chhoti Film Badi Kahani, Reel-E-Reel, and Doodle Drama, along with eight food stalls and an NGO initiative by Bagchi Karunashraya. Judges of the competitions were felicitated for their contributions, recognizing their role in promoting creativity and ethical media practices.
