Private hospitals record more C-section deliveries than Govt facilities in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The number of normal deliveries recorded in government hospitals in Odisha was significantly higher than the figure in private health facilities over the last five years, as per data presented in the state Assembly on Tuesday.

Sharing this information while answering a question in the House, Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling said that private hospitals in the state reported more number of caesarean section (C-Section) deliveries during the same period.

Odisha recorded a total of 30,08,383 deliveries in the past five years. Out of these, more than 23,69,000 deliveries took place in government hospitals. As per data presented in the Assembly, government facilities handled 19,59,918 normal deliveries and 4,09,718 caesarean deliveries during this period.

On the other hand, private hospitals recorded only 1,48,242 normal deliveries while conducting 4,90,505 caesarean procedures during this period. These statistics highlight that private hospitals perform caesarean sections at a much higher rate compared to government facilities.
