24 WSC students return to Odisha after 6-month internship in Singapore

Bhubaneswar: A group of 24 outstanding students from the World Skill Center (WSC) here returned to Odisha on Sunday after successfully completing a transformative six-month paid internship program in Singapore. The students were welcomed warmly by WSC officials at Biju Patnaik International Airport upon their arrival on a direct flight from Singapore.

The international internship program is a flagship initiative of the World Skill Center, aimed at providing global exposure and practical experience to students from its School of Engineering. Each year, 24 top-performing students are selected through a rigorous process and placed in reputed international companies across Singapore for hands-on training.

This year’s cohort, part of the 2024-25 batch, embarked on their internship journey in March. Over the past six months, the students gained in-depth, real-world experience in areas such as Electrical Technology, Mechanical and Electrical Services, Mechatronics and advanced engineering practices while working with globally renowned firms.

To mark their return, Principal T Thambyrajah and Director of the School of Engineering Pitchian Anthonysamy were present at the airport to personally welcome the students. Both senior officials commended the students for their hard work, discipline, and excellence during the internship, and conveyed their heartfelt wishes for the students’ continued success in their professional journeys. Their presence and encouraging words added to the warm and celebratory atmosphere of the homecoming.

Saswati Panda, a student of Electrical Technology, interned at YTL PowerSeraya, one of Singapore’s leading energy companies. I developed key skills in troubleshooting, maintenance, safety standards, and teamwork in a multicultural environment. I am grateful to the World Skill Center for this invaluable opportunity.”

Saswati, who hails from Bhubaneswar, is now more confident in her abilities and eager to contribute to the energy sector with her newly acquired skills. She aspires to secure a position in a reputed company where she can continue to grow and make a meaningful impact in the field of electrical technology.

Another intern, Nabarangpur-born Rajkishore Ray from the Mechanical and Electrical Services program, reflected on his internship at Four Seasons Hotel Singapore:

During his six-month internship, Rajkishore’s dedication and performance stood out, earning him a placement with Four Seasons in the Maldives, where he will soon begin his professional journey. This prestigious opportunity is a testament to his hard work, adaptability, and commitment to sustainable engineering practices.

The students unanimously agreed that the international exposure has broadened their perspectives, enhanced their technical capabilities, and positioned them for greater success in their future careers.
