President to visit Rourkela on April 21

Bhubaneswar: President Droupadi Murmu will visit Odisha on April 21, with Rourkela as her key stop, where she is expected to attend multiple programmes during her one-day tour.

Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram informed about the planned visit after meeting Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday. He discussed three major issues, progress in land acquisition for expansion of Rourkela Steel Plant, transfer of land from the plant to the airport authority for Rourkela airport expansion, and the President’s upcoming visit, with the CM.

Oram expressed satisfaction with the progress on land acquisition and emphasised the importance of expediting airport expansion. He also briefed the Chief Minister on the tentative program for the President’s visit.

During the meeting, Oram welcomed the State government’s recent decision to extend reservation benefits in medical, engineering, and other professional education to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and SEBC students. He said the move would greatly benefit students from marginalised communities in pursuing higher education.

The President’s visit to Rourkela is expected to highlight the city’s growing importance as an industrial and educational hub.
