Nayagada: A private bus travelling from Bhubaneswar to Nayagada met with a tragic accident near Baunsia Pada under Itamati police limits on Friday, leaving one dead and more than 25 injured.
The driver identified as Niranjan Swain of Pichukuli village in Khordha district, died on the spot after the vehicle rammed into a roadside tree. Police confirmed that the impact crushed the front portion of the bus, trapping the driver inside.
Rescue teams comprising fire brigade personnel, police, and local residents rushed to the scene and evacuated the injured passengers. All victims were admitted to the Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital, where five were reported to be in critical condition.
The Sub‑Collector visited the hospital to assess the situation and enquired about the health of the injured. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
