‘Rain The Club’ owner arrested for misbehaving with excise officer

Bhubaneswar: Police have arrested a club owner for allegedly misbehaving with a woman Excise officer during the raid on the club in Bhubaneswar on early morning of Sunday.

Sources said the Excise department received a complaint that the “Rain The Club” in Laxmisagar in the city was operating beyond permissible hours. A team of Excise officials, led by Superintendent, Excise, Bhubaneswar Sumati Tripathy went to the club to carry out raid at around 1.40 am.

When the Excise team went to the club for the raid, its owner Asit Mohanty allegdly misbehaved with the superintendent. Later, police arrested Mohanty on the basis of a complaint filed by the superintendent.

Speaking to the media on the incident, Tripathy said, “When we arrived at the club to carry out the raid, its owner Asit Mohanty came out and sat before our vehicle on the road. I told him that we had come for inspection of the club and requested him to cooperate. But he did not heed my request and instead started scolding us,” she said.

“After we contacted the IIC of Laxmisagar police station over phone, a police team came and took him away. I have filed an FIR in the police station in this regard. Besides obstructing the government officials in carrying out their duties, he will face charges of misbehaving with a woman in public place,” she added.
