Bhubaneswar: A low pressure area is likely to form over the north Andaman Sea around the evening of September 19, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its latest bulletin on Wednesday.
According to the IMD, an upper-air cyclonic circulation is currently lying over north Thailand and extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level. The system is likely to emerge over the north Andaman Sea by the evening of September 18.
Under its influence, a low pressure area is expected to develop over the same region around September 19 evening. The system is then likely to intensify gradually while moving west-northwestwards towards the south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coasts over the following three to four days.
The developing system is likely to influence weather conditions over Odisha in the coming days. However, the IMD has not yet forecasted the eventual intensity of the system. There is currently no official prediction of whether the low pressure area will strengthen into a cyclonic storm.
The IMD is expected to provide more details on the system’s intensity, movement and possible impact as it develops over the Bay of Bengal.
