Bhubaneswar: In a landmark legal victory, the Odisha government has successfully secured around 62.72 acres of valuable government land in Tarol village under Tangi-Choudwar tehsil in Kataka district, bringing an end to a prolonged 43-year legal battle over its ownership.
The court of the Board of Revenue, in its historic verdict, rejected the ownership claims made by private individuals and directed that the entire land be retained in the government records as government property.
The land, estimated to have a market value of over Rs 800 crore, has now been taken into possession by the Cuttack District Collector, ensuring the protection of this valuable public asset.
The dispute over the ownership of the land had continued for more than four decades, raising concerns over the status of a substantial stretch of government property.
With the court of the Board of Revenue dismissing the private ownership claims, the long-standing legal dispute has finally reached its conclusion.
“The district administration will utilise the land for various public-oriented initiatives and developmental projects in the coming days,” said the state government.
The verdict is being seen as a significant step towards protecting government land and safeguarding public assets from unauthorised private claims.
