Bhubaneswar: Odisha can expect some reprieve from the sultry weather condition as rainfall activity may intensify in early July with formation of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of hot and humid conditions at isolated places in the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Sambalpur, Anugola, Balangir, Kalahandi, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada till June 29.
While the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has not yet forecast a low-pressure area, only indicating a cyclonic circulation over the north Bay of Bengal between July 2 and 8, the Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC) of SOA Deemed to be University predicts that a low-pressure area is likely to form over the northwest Bay of Bengal off the Odisha coast on July 2 and gradually intensify into a depression the following day. The system may further intensify into a deep depression on July 4 and under its influence, moderate to heavy rainfall may drench the state from July 1 to 5.
According to the midday bulletin, heavy to very rainfall may occur at some places in the state on June 30 and July 1. Heavy rainfall warning has also been issued for Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and Gajapati districts on June 28, Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and Gajapati on June 29; Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri on June 30; Jajpur, Kataka, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Balangir and Kandhamala on July 1; and Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Nabarangpur, Koraput and Gajapati on July 2.
The state is also likely to experience intense thunderstorm activity for 4 days. On June 29, thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (40-50 kmph) may occur at one or two places in the districts of Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and Gajapati. Similar weather conditions with wind speed of 30-40 kmph may also prevail in Baleshwar, Sundargada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonpur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada.
On June 30, thunderstorm accompanied by lightning, gusty surface wind (50-60 kmph) and heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur at one or two places in the districts of Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Kandhamal and Gajapati. Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (40-50 kmph) is also likely in Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri. Similar weather conditions with wind speed of 30-40 kmph may also prevail in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Sundargada, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Sonpur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Nabarangpur, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada.
On July 1, thunderstorm accompanied by lightning, gusty surface wind (50-60 kmph) and heavy to very heavy rainfall may continue at one or two places in the districts of Anugola and Dhenkanal. Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (40-50 kmph) is also likely in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Sundargada, Debagada, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonpur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada.

On July 4, similar weather conditions with wind speed of 30-40 kmph may continue in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Sundargada, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Debagarh, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati and Ganjam.
